Union EAP proudly supports members through crises, substance abuse concerns, family issues and mental health, to name a few. As Union EAP continues to expand ways to improve the lives of members, we are excited to partner with the Workplace Exposure Research Program (WERP).
The contributions of our members cannot be overstated or overlooked. We are grateful for the work our members have done and continue to do to improve the world that we all live in. This contribution comes with some risks and rewards.
Some potential risks of working in our industry are exposure to asbestos and other workplace related substances that can lead to the development of mesothelioma and other illnesses. Union EAP is partnering with Diane Blackburn and the Chicago Medical Group to offer SMART members with at least 20 years of service the opportunity to be screened for potential workplace related issues. This is a significant opportunity for our members to receive health information before issues arise.
Construction workers face many hazards during their careers, and sheet metal workers are often in spaces between walls and inside ceilings, where they can be exposed to asbestos and silica. Learn more about the dangers of asbestosis and silicosis from SMOHIT.
Health is one of our most important assets. Our health does not only have an impact on our lives, but it also affects the lives of those who know and love us. This program is an opportunity to be screened before major issues present themselves. Information is one of the best gifts we can have. Being aware of either the lack of an issue or the presence of concerns can empower all of us.
Prevention is the single best way to avoid serious illness. This is your opportunity.
Increasing research about how work environments impact the lives of members yields invaluable information for Union EAP, SMART and Locals to improve conditions for current and future members. Having up-to-date information on union members' health would provide invaluable information for our industry. Your participation can bring about positive changes for many.
Even though there are many physical, social and workplace benefits to your participation, there are other ways that we would like to reward your participation. Members will receive a $25 Visa gift card simply filling out the Work Health Form. Another $100 Visa gift card would be provided to those who complete an X-Ray within 90 days.
