The Union EAP Difference: Crisis Response
The nature of labor and construction work can be dangerous. This is why Union EAP looks to support our members in being as safe as possible, both professionally and personally. When a tragedy impacts one member, it impacts those around them.
The loss of a coworker, a serious accident, a suicide, or a personal crisis doesn't stop at the individual. These tragedies affect families, friends, and fellow members and coworkers.
In generations past, people relied on close-knit communities to carry them through hardship. While society may have changed, our commitment remains the same. Union EAP strives to be the community our members deserve when they need it most.
The heart of Union EAP is to transform the industry of Employee Assistance Programs to truly serve their members with the qualified care and attention they deserve. With research showing elevated rates of suicide, injury, substance abuse, and mental health challenges within the trades, we know our members need more than reactive services — so we provide proactive care and immediate support.
Our Crisis Support services cater to the needs of our members when tragedy hits. We don’t just wait until the people call and only provide support over the phone — Union EAP shows up!
Our Crisis Response services include:
- Deployment of a highly trained Crisis Response Specialist to the affected location within 24 to 72 hours when appropriate.
- Immediate collaboration with local leadership and key personnel.
- Our Crisis Response Specialist assesses the unique needs of the situation to develop a tailored support plan in collaboration with the Care Coordination team.
- Conduct extended grief support with large groups of members and provide individual support in person when needed.
- Provide a safe space for members to share their experiences and memories of members if loss is experienced.
- Utilize evidence-based grief management tools and coping strategies that members can use long after the crisis has passed.
- Connect members to ongoing care and resources through Union EAP Care Coordinators.
- Encourage and lead peer support among members.
- Follow up with affected members after Crisis Response to check in and provide further support is needed.
Union members deserve the highest quality care based on best practices, which is what Union EAP guarantees.
Union EAP’s Crisis Response team has provided in-person support for tragedies including suicides, fatal vehicle accidents, workplace fatalities, serious job-site incidents, and other unexpected losses that deeply affected members and their communities.
